Job Description
An Activities Assistant in a care home is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading recreational and therapeutic activities that enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of residents. Their work helps improve residents’ quality of life by promoting engagement, social interaction, and a sense of purpose.
Key Responsibilities:
• Planning activities: Designing a schedule of daily, weekly, and monthly activities tailored to residents' abilities and interests.
• Leading sessions: Running group or individual activities such as arts and crafts, music, games, gentle exercise, gardening, and reminiscence therapy.
• Encouraging participation: Motivating residents to join in and ensuring everyone feels included, regardless of physical or cognitive limitations.
• Adapting activities: Modifying tasks to suit residents with dementia, mobility issues, or other health concerns.
• Celebrating events: Organizing holiday celebrations, birthday parties, and cultural or religious observances.
• Community involvement: Coordinating visits from entertainers, volunteers, or local groups, and sometimes arranging outings.
• Monitoring and feedback: Observing how residents respond to activities and making adjustments as needed; sometimes keeping records or reports.
