Job Description
A Kitchen Assistant in a care home supports the preparation and delivery of meals to residents, ensuring that food is prepared, cooked, and served in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. They work under the supervision of a chef or cook and play a key role in maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.
Key Responsibilities:
• Food preparation: Assisting with basic food prep tasks such as peeling, chopping, or portioning ingredients.
• Meal service: Helping plate and serve meals to residents, ensuring dietary requirements and preferences are followed.
• Cleaning duties: Washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment; cleaning food preparation areas and maintaining general kitchen cleanliness.
• Stock management: Helping to unpack deliveries, store food items properly, and monitor stock levels.
• Following hygiene standards: Adhering to food safety and hygiene regulations (e.g., HACCP), including correct storage and handling of food.
• Supporting dietary needs: Assisting with preparation of modified diets (e.g., pureed, low-sodium, diabetic-friendly) under guidance from senior kitchen staff.
